Compress PDF
Reduce PDF file size by recompressing photos — privately in your browser.
Pages are converted to JPEG images. Text will no longer be selectable or searchable; links, forms and digital signatures will not remain interactive or valid. Quality may decrease. Your original PDF stays unchanged. Text-only or already-optimised files may not shrink.
How to use Compress PDF
- Choose or drag in one PDF file.
- Pick Recommended, Strong or Maximum compression and review the quality warning.
- Click Compress PDF, compare the sizes, then download.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device.
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the content. PDFs with photos or scanned pages usually shrink noticeably. Text-only or already-optimised PDFs may become larger; only a smaller result is offered for download.
What exactly is compressed?
Each page is rendered locally and rebuilt as a JPEG image in a new PDF. Page count, visible page dimensions and orientation are preserved. Text becomes non-selectable, links and forms stop being interactive, and digital signatures are not preserved. Keep your original.
Why wasn't my PDF compressed?
Already compact content can be smaller than image-based pages. Try a stronger setting if available; if the output is not smaller, no compressed download is offered. Files are limited to 100 MB and 500 pages, and pages are processed one at a time to reduce memory use.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No. Remove the password in your PDF viewer first, then try again.
